Calculation methodology
AppCalcs turns the values you enter into planning estimates. This page documents the shared formulas, pricing assumptions, limits, and primary sources used across the calculators.
General conventions
- Calculations run locally in your browser; entered values are not sent to an AppCalcs server.
- Negative or invalid inputs are treated as zero. Counts and projection periods that must be whole numbers are rounded down.
- Displayed currency values are rounded for readability after calculations are completed. Internal calculations use JavaScript floating-point numbers.
- Annual run rate is monthly net revenue multiplied by 12. It is not a forecast of seasonal or changing revenue.
- English general-purpose calculators use USD defaults; Japanese versions use JPY defaults. AppCalcs does not perform exchange-rate conversion.
App Store commission
estimated fee = gross revenue × commission rateThe baseline model uses a 30% standard commission and 15% for eligible App Store Small Business Program members. For auto-renewable subscriptions outside that program, the model uses 15% after 12 completed months of paid service.
Eligibility, taxes, refunds, regional terms, alternative distribution, alternative payment rules, and special programs are excluded. In particular, this simplified model does not represent alternative terms in the EU or Japan.

RevenueCat
MTR ≤ $2,500: $0
MTR > $2,500: MTR × 1%Once the free threshold is exceeded, the estimate applies 1% to the entire monthly tracked revenue amount, not only the amount above the threshold. Enterprise, legacy, negotiated, and separate product pricing are excluded.

Qonversion
MTR ≤ $7,000: $0
MTR > $7,000: MTR × 0.8%Qonversion Pro applies the rate to the entire MTR once the free threshold is exceeded. Enterprise pricing, discounts, credits, taxes, and negotiated terms are excluded.

Adapty
Revenue ≤ $5,000: $0
After crossing the threshold: monthly revenue × 1%The estimate excludes Enterprise and paid add-ons. Adapty describes the threshold using rolling 30-day revenue and starts a monthly billing cycle after it is crossed.

Web payment baseline
estimated fee = gross revenue × 2.9% + transactions × $0.30This is a simplified US domestic online-card baseline based on public Stripe pricing. International cards, currency conversion, disputes, taxes, billing software, regional pricing, and negotiated rates are excluded.

Retention, LTV, and projections
Monthly retention uses a constant churn assumption: the surviving share in month n is (1 − monthly churn)^(n − 1). LTV is calculated month by month for up to 120 months so the App Store proceeds-rate change after one year can be represented. A zero-churn scenario is therefore capped rather than treated as infinite.
Growth simulations apply churn and then add the same number of new subscribers each month. Trial, annual-plan, and pricing-model comparisons use the conversion, renewal, and time-horizon values entered by the user; they do not predict how those inputs will change.

Corrections and updates
Provider terms can change without notice. Always verify the linked primary source before making a decision. The assumption review dates above show when AppCalcs last checked its stored rates; they do not guarantee that a provider has not changed its terms since then.
